The short version

Math Vale is a mathematics role-playing game. Four kingdoms are free for ever. The rest can be opened with a subscription or a one-off purchase. If you stop paying, nothing a student has done is deleted — the paid kingdoms simply close again, and reopen the moment you come back.

Using the game means agreeing to what is on this page. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should read it with you.

Accounts

An account is a username, a display name and a password. No email address, no phone number and no date of birth, as the privacy page explains. You are responsible for keeping the password to yourself.

Pick a display name other people would not mind seeing. Names are filtered, and a name that gets past the filter can be reported by anyone who sees it and changed by us.

You can delete the account yourself at any time, from the character sheet on the web or from Settings in the apps. Deleting is permanent and immediate.

What is free, and what is not

Starter Village, Number Kingdom, Fraction Isles and Algebra Kingdom are free, for ever, with no limit on how much you play and no advertising anywhere.

The remaining kingdoms — Geometry, Functions, Trigonometry, Calculus, Probability, Statistics and Linear Algebra — need either a subscription or the one-off unlock. The first time a student opens one of them, a free fortnight starts automatically. No payment details are needed for it, and when it ends the free kingdoms carry on exactly as before.

Paying

Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google, depending on where you bought. We never see or store a card number. Prices are shown in your own currency before you buy.

The annual subscription renews once a year at the price shown, and keeps renewing until it is cancelled. Cancel at least a day before it renews, in your device’s own account settings — cancelling in the game is not possible, because the subscription lives with the store rather than with us. Cancelling stops the next payment; it does not end the period you have already paid for.

The one-off unlock does not renew. It is bought once and stays. On Apple it is shared with your Family Sharing group.

Refunds are the store’s to give, not ours, and their policies apply. If a purchase is refunded, the paid kingdoms close again. Nothing a student has learned is removed.

What happens to progress

Mastery, quests, the Journal, the homestead, items and everything else a student earns belong to that account and are never removed because a payment stopped. Access to the paid kingdoms is the only thing that changes, and it comes back immediately if you subscribe again.

Fair use

Please do not attempt to break into other people’s accounts, automate play to inflate scores, copy the lessons or problems for another product, or use the game to be unkind to another player. We can close an account that does.

The story, artwork, music, lessons and problems are ours. Playing the game does not give you a licence to republish them.

What we promise, and what we do not

We run this carefully, and we cannot promise it is never down or never wrong. The game is provided as it is. We are not liable for indirect losses, and in any case our total liability is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the problem.

Math Vale teaches mathematics; it does not assess, diagnose or replace a teacher, and nothing in it is advice about a child’s education.

Changes, and the law

If these terms change, the date at the top moves, and a change that affects what you pay will never apply to a period already bought. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.
